BEAUTIFUL FILM WEEK: SUNDAY
20 January, 2008 | leave a message (2) | link to this post

Stanno tutti bene {Everybody's Fine} by Giuseppe Tornatore. I saw this wonderful film more than ten years ago... I would love to see it again!

Matteo Scuro {Marcello Mastroianni } is a retired Sicilian railroad worker, a widower with five children, all of whom live on the mainland and hold responsible jobs. He decides to surprise each with a visit and finds none as he imagined. The film is a veritable travelogue across contemporary Italy, as Matteo journeys to Napoli, Roma, Firenze, Milano, and Turino to search for each of his children; he even spends one night on the streets among the homeless. Scuro returns to Sicily, visits his wife's grave, and reports with irony that 'stanno tutti bene.'

{you will be able to find some parts of the film on YouTube - my favourite is this one}

BEAUTIFUL FILM WEEK: THURSDAY
17 January, 2008 | leave a message (1) | link to this post

Delicatessen by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet {you may know Jean-Pierre Jeunet from his film Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain}.

The story is centered on a microcosm of a post-apocalyptic society where food is so rare it's invaluable and is used as currency. The story centers on an apartment building with a delicatessen on the ground floor. The owner of the eatery also owns the apartment building and he is in need of a new maintenance man since the original 'mysteriously' disappeared. A former clown applies for the job and the butcher's intent is to have him work for a little while and then serve him to quirky tenants who pay the butcher in, of course, grain. The clown and butcher's daughter fall in love and she tries to foil her father's plans by contacting the 'troglodytes', a grain eating sub-group of society who live entirely underground. The 'trogs' are possibly the most sensible of the lot, as they see food as food and not money.

{I am joining Abby for Beautiful Film Week!}

'there are people in the world who know no misery and woe and they take comfort in cheerful films about twittering birds and giggling elves. There are people who know that there's always a mystery to be solved and they take comfort in researching and writing down any important evidence'

- Lemony Snicket

SINTERKLAAS
16 December, 2007 | leave a message (2) | link to this post

{presents + poems with a siagrafica twist}

The Sinterklaas celebration was wonderful - we had a lot of fun singing, reading poems + we all got lovely presents. The presents that I bought were wrapped in customized paper {download} - everyone had their own colour. And look what Sinterklaas got me...

{my presents - I ♥ that lunch box... it's a (b)re(a)d box!}

XL Toblerone
a cute red lunch box
a moleskine sketchbook
500 cupcakes {'the only cupcake compendium you'll ever need'}
Holland in beeld {illustrations, ads, book covers et cetera from 1895-2008}
this dress by H&M {from a couple of years ago... found on eBay}

HI.
21 November, 2007 | leave a message (2) | link to this post

{'don't use flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaash!}'

I'm still here...! But I'm under the weather and can't seem to find the time and peace to make my place a home {although Parker is enjoying herself - napping on my sofa, cuddling up and headbutting me as soon as I get home from work}.

Oh well, I can't wait for December to arrive. My birthday is December 10th and all I want for my 29th birthday is a print gocco... and some gocco supplies.

talking 'bout printing: take a look at Loraine's tea towels... there's more eyecandy over here.

I am working on a flyer and a poster for QUINCEY's upcoming CD presentation {December 21st}... will post some pictures later on. It has something to do with the circus...

MUSIC AND LEMONADE
03 November, 2007 | leave a message (2) | link to this post

...a music related post!

If only we celebrated Halloween in The Netherlands... I would definitely dress up as Milky, the milk carton featured in Coffee & TV {blur}:

{+ still in love with this song after 13 years!}

this one too. and this one. and this one {a Michel Gondry video}.

more Michel Gondry: this film is on my birthday wishlist!

Penelope, thank you for this reminder.

this weekend:

  • making lemonade {in autumn... silly girl. but I like it a lot! home made lemonade is the best.}
  • flipping through my stack of magazines... including BluePrint
  • reading this book {...for the 3rd? 4th? 6th? time}.

ROOM ELEVEN IN CONCERT
26 October, 2007 | leave a message (2) | link to this post

{Janne, Maarten, Arriën, Lucas and Tony | image: pop*eric}

Just got back from Paradiso... where Room Eleven was playing - the gig had been sold out for months! The concert was great and... their debut album went platinum - what an accomplishment!

Room Eleven = Janne {vocals}, Maarten {drums}, Arriën {guitar}, Lucas {double bass} and Tony {piano}.

I met Janne five years ago through a mutual {ex} boyfriend {who was also at the concert - with his new girlfriend!} and in those five years she has grown a lot - both as a singer/songwriter as well as a performer/entertainer. Chapeau! {...she also made this beautiful painting for my 27th birthday!}

Afterwards, Janne was so kind to scribble something on my arm! Free publicity - thanks!
{Janne's site, schradinova.com is pretty cool, too} ;-)

you can listen to some Room Eleven songs over here and over here... enjoy!

I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.

{I especially like the but you will receive it within 365 days part!}

UPDATE: Whoa, that was quick! Francesca, Stephanie and Jeska: thank you for participating in this PIF thing! :-)

KATE
26 September, 2007 | leave a message (2) | link to this post

{Telegraaf | Wednesday September 26 2007}

Yay for Sia - in a Dutch newspaper! But what's up with the weird 'do? Well, I was on top of the 'bicycle boat' close to Amsterdam Central Station and the wind was blowing... that's why.

Anyway - yesterday morning I tried to find a spot to park my bike when a bunch of people asked me to participate in a photo shoot regarding the launch of Kate's new fragrance... oh well, who was I to say no? They decorated most of the bicycles with red roses... that was a nice gesture. The photographer told me he would send me a copy of the photograph - I'm still waiting...

{I'd better stick to my day job instead of modelling...}

ugh my hair looks weird - but Kate is looking fab, as always...

Let's hope that she will feel more at home in the next couple of days.
